Hydraulic Top Link Cylinder for Case IH Tractors: Compatibility & Replacement Guide

    8th October 2026

A hydraulic top link cylinder allows Case IH tractor operators to adjust the angle of rear-mounted implements directly from the cab. It replaces the traditional mechanical top link on the three-point hitch and is especially useful when the implement angle needs frequent adjustment during grading, tillage, mowing or transport.

Case IH offers genuine hydraulic top link kits across different hitch categories, including Category 1, Category 3 and Category 4 configurations. This makes OEM part numbers, hitch category and end connection type especially useful when identifying a replacement hydraulic top link.

What Is a Hydraulic Top Link Cylinder?

A hydraulic top link is a double-acting hydraulic cylinder installed in place of the manually adjustable upper link of a tractor’s three-point hitch.

By extending or retracting the cylinder, the operator can change the working angle of an attached implement without manually adjusting a threaded top link. This is useful with rear blades, plows, cultivators, rotary cutters, box blades and other three-point implements.

Does Case IH Offer Hydraulic Top Links?

Yes. Case IH genuine parts listings include several hydraulic top link kits for different tractor sizes and linkage configurations.

For smaller applications, Case IH part 46.120.008X is listed as a Category 1 Hydraulic Top Link Kit. It has a closed length of 20 inches and an extended length of 28 inches, with 36-inch hoses and 1/2-inch hydraulic connections.

For larger agricultural applications, Case IH also lists Category 3 and Category 4 hydraulic top link kits with claw ends.

This means the correct replacement should not be selected simply by tractor horsepower. Hitch category, dimensions and end style all need to be confirmed.

Case IH Hydraulic Top Link OEM References

OEM reference numbers are particularly useful when identifying a replacement Case IH hydraulic top link.

Case IH OEM Reference Description Key Information
    46.120.008X Hydraulic Top Link Kit Category 1; 20″ collapsed / 28″ extended
719790024 Hydraulic Adjustable Top Link Kit Hook type; 687–915 mm
84316176 Hydraulic Top Link Kit with Claw End Category 3
47480579 Hydraulic Top Link Kit with Claw End Category 4
51586397 Hydraulic Top Link Kit Category 4

The 719790024 kit includes a hook-type top link with a specified length range of 687–915 mm, along with hydraulic hoses, quick couplers and linkage components.

For heavier applications, 84316176 is a Category 3 hydraulic top link kit with a claw end, while 47480579 is a Category 4 version. Both are designed to hydraulically control implement tilt from the tractor.

Category 1 to Category 4 Hydraulic Top Links

One of the main differences between Case IH applications is the wide range of hitch categories.

Smaller and compact tractor applications may use Category 1 top links, while larger utility and agricultural tractors can require Category 2, Category 3 or Category 4 linkage components.

For example, Case IH’s Magnum tractor range offers rear hitch configurations including Category 4N/3 or Category 3N/3, depending on the model.

This is important when sourcing a replacement hydraulic top link because higher-category linkage normally requires larger mounting dimensions and heavier-duty components.

The hitch category should therefore be treated as the starting point, followed by confirmation of the actual pin, ball or hook dimensions.

Hook, Claw and Ball-End Hydraulic Top Links

Case IH uses different top-link end configurations depending on tractor size and application.

The 719790024 kit uses a hook-type top link.

The 84316176 and 47480579 kits use claw-end configurations for Category 3 and Category 4 applications. MyCNH Store

Case IH also uses ball-link and quick-attach linkage components on different tractor ranges. For example, the Maxxum Series three-point hitch can be equipped with quick-attach claw ends or telescopic lower links with ball-link ends.

For replacement projects, the end style should therefore be confirmed together with:

    • Pin or ball diameter
    • Mounting width
    • Retracted length
    • Extended length
    • Required stroke

Case IH Tractor Series Relevant to Hydraulic Top Link Applications

Hydraulic top-link requirements vary significantly between Case IH tractor families.

Farmall tractors cover compact and utility applications, where smaller Category 1 or Category 2 linkage arrangements may be used depending on model and configuration.

Maxxum tractors use heavier-duty three-point hitches and are designed for a wide range of mounted agricultural implements. Case IH describes the Maxxum rear linkage as having standard telescoping stabilizers with optional quick-attach claw ends or ball-link lower links. Case IH

Puma tractors move further into heavier agricultural applications and should be matched according to the exact hitch specification and mounting dimensions.

Magnum tractors use large rear hitch configurations, including Category 4N/3 and 3N/3 options depending on model, making them relevant to heavy-duty hydraulic top-link applications. Case IH

For all of these ranges, the specific tractor model and hitch configuration should be checked before selecting a replacement cylinder.

How to Select a Replacement Case IH Hydraulic Top Link

For a Case IH replacement project, the most useful starting point is the original OEM part number. If the number is available, it can help identify the hitch category, end style and general cylinder configuration.

The actual dimensions should then be measured. Confirm the retracted and extended length, stroke, mounting width, pin or ball dimensions and available clearance. This is especially important because two tractors within the same series may use different linkage configurations.

The hydraulic connection should also be checked, including hose length, port thread, quick-coupler type and tractor operating pressure. A hydraulic top link normally requires a double-acting rear hydraulic circuit.

Custom Replacement Hydraulic Top Links for Case IH

AISOAR can manufacture replacement hydraulic top link cylinders for Case IH tractors according to OEM reference numbers, dimensions, drawings or samples.

Available configurations can include ball-joint, hook and claw-style ends, customized stroke and installation length, as well as integrated locking valves where required.

For replacement identification, provide the Case IH tractor model, OEM number, retracted and extended length, mounting dimensions, end type and hydraulic connection. Photos of the original top link and tractor mounting points are also useful when exact specifications are not available.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Case IH 719790024?

Case IH 719790024 is a dealer-installed hydraulic adjustable top link kit. It includes a hook-type top link with a specified length range of 687–915 mm, together with hoses, quick couplers and mounting components.

Q: Does Case IH use Category 3 and Category 4 hydraulic top links?

Yes. Case IH lists 84316176 as a Category 3 hydraulic top link kit with claw end and 47480579 as a Category 4 hydraulic top link kit with claw end.

Q: What information is needed to replace a Case IH hydraulic top link?

Ideally, provide the tractor model and original OEM part number. Also confirm the retracted length, extended length, end connection, mounting dimensions and hydraulic connection.

Q: Can AISOAR manufacture a replacement Case IH hydraulic top link?

Yes. AISOAR can manufacture custom or replacement hydraulic top links based on OEM references, drawings, samples or measured dimensions.

    Conclusion

Case IH tractors use a wide range of three-point hitch configurations, from smaller Category 1 applications to heavy-duty Category 3 and Category 4 systems.

For this reason, a hydraulic top link should be selected according to the actual hitch category, end connection, mounting dimensions and hydraulic requirements rather than tractor horsepower alone. Using the Case IH OEM reference number together with dimensional measurements is one of the most reliable ways to identify or manufacture a suitable replacement hydraulic top link.
