The hydraulic cylinders have several classification methods, depending on how the working fluid acts on the piston, the function, the body construction, mounting method, normal or special cylinders.

Hydraulic Cylinder Parameters:

Bore size: inner diameter of the cylinder barrel.
Bore sizes are generally standardized numbers like 2", 2.5", 3", 3.5", and 4" in inch, or 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 in millimeter.

Rod size: diameter of the piston rod.
Rod sizes are generally standardized numbers like 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2, 2 in inch, or 25, 30, 40, 50 in millimeter.

Stroke: the available stroke of the piston rod can comes in and out.
stroke = S2-S1 = max.length - min.length = extended length - retracted length

Pressure Rating: Force = Pressure x Area
Bore size and pressure rating determine how much force can be developed at a given oil pressure.

Typically hydraulic cylinders are broadly categorized in Bore x Stroke. For example, a 4"x24" cylinder has a 4" bore and a 24" stroke. If there is a third number, it's the diameter of the piston rod.

The bore x stoke will give you the basic mechanical characteristics of the cylinder: how far it moves and how much force it can produce.

Hydraulic Cylinder Components:
The hydraulic cylinders are generally made up of the same basic components, cylinder barrel, piston rod, base or cap, piston, oil port and head, in some applications, the rod ends also needed. There are many mounting types and rod ends can be to choose from, including cross-tube, clevis, flange, trunnion, dilled hole, threaded, and so on.

Body construction of hydraulic cylinders:

Tie rod style hydraulic cylinders use high strength threaded steel rods to hold the two end caps to the cylinder barrel, this type of cylinders can be completely disassembled for service and repair. Tie-rod cylinders are available in bore sizes from 2 inches to 5 inches and strokes from 0.5 inches to 60 inches.

Welded cylinders can be used for most applications. Because they are welded, the design can be more sophisticated or more customized. Because of that, repairment usually is more challenging. With the compact and more customized design, welded cylinders in most cases are a preferred solution. The bore sizes of heavy-duty welded cylinders range from 1.5 inches to 12 inches.

Double acting and Single-acting hydraulic cylinders:

Double acting cylinders have two oil ports which both getting the input and output pressures from hydraulic fluid, so the retraction and extension force of hydraulic cylinders be driven by pressurized hydraulic fluid.

Single acting cylinders relies on the load, gravity or springs to return its original position, one side of piston gets the pressure from hydraulic fluid. Most of the standard serial cylinders are double acting type, but single acting cylinders are available to customized in AiSoar company. We are willing to design and build double or single acting cylinders for you.

QA: 

Q: All the components of hydraulic cylinders are made by your own factory? or just part of them?
A: All of them made by ourselves. We have our own factory, and we have lots of advance machines to machining the components, so we are able to make all the components by ourselves, the quality of each of components under well controlled. 

Q: Each of the hydraulic cylinders be tested by hydraulic fluid before delivery or just test some of them for a batch? 
A: All cylinders need to go through the testing procedures under rated and low pressure by testing machine.  We have the ability to test 1000 pcs cylinder per day with five testing bench. Once the cylinder be found that failed the test procedures need to be removed from production and returned to QC to see if it can get reworked.
