When your equipment design requires hydraulic cylinders, one of the main considerations is whether to purchase standard cylinders or custom hydraulic cylinders. Standard cylinders will always be close to meeting your requirements, but there are some shortcomings. For example, the hole diameter may be slightly larger than you need, and your choice of rod material and diameter is limited.

In some cases, standard cylinders are sufficient-for example, on mass production equipment without special requirements. When designing a machine from scratch, you can choose to install the machine around a standard hydraulic cylinder. But remember, this will have its own impact. In most cases, installing a standard cylinder into the design will find that it is not suitable for your manufacturing area, whether it is seals, shape, size, mounting, port size, flow, or design criteria.

Custom cylinders can cover any imaginable scene. The piston rod and other parts are designed to be accurate to the required length and diameter, and are made of materials most suitable for the application. Valves and valve manifolds can be incorporated into the cylinder block. Custom gas cylinders can be manufactured for specific operating conditions, such as high ambient pressure in a deep ocean environment, high ambient temperature near the furnace, and other heat sources or extremely low temperatures (such as under sub-arctic conditions). They are also durable enough to be activated after maintaining the same extended or retracted position for decades or after continuous rapid, repetitive movements and variable strokes. The cost associated with custom hydraulic cylinders may be higher than the cost of standard cylinders.
Aisoar hydraulics custom hydraulic cylinders to meet customers’ requirements on mounting styles, pressure ratings, sizes and configurations. We also excel in fully supporting small & middle sized customers, and to help them grow. Welded cylinders can be used for most applications. Because they are welded, the design can be more sophisticated or more customized. Because of that, repairment usually is more challenging. With the compact and more customized design, welded cylinders in most cases are a preferred solution.
Features commonly required for custom hydraulic cylinders include:
- Special mounting styles.
- Unusual port or pin locations.
- Extremely long stroke, large bore…
- Restricted space.
- Exotic or unusual materials, coatings, or finishes.
- Integrated functions.
If you make a custom machine, choosing a standard cylinder usually means that you will compromise the design of the product to fit the cylinder. However, the safest, most durable, and most effective option is to specify a custom hydraulic cylinder optimized to match your product.
